This is a real Franco / German accord, the best of the French, Quidam de Revel over the full-sister to one of the all time great German jumping sires, Capitol.
Quite Capitol’s dam, U-Capitola is also the dam of the licensed stallions, Cevin, Landcapitol and Lord Capitol, as well as the mare, Birte II (by Landgraf) who is the dam of Quite Easy I & II.
Harm Thörmahlen told me why he thinks the cross works:
“Quidam has quite a lot of blood, but they are hard hard fighters – sometimes fighting against the rider! Capitol needs blood, so Quidam makes a good mix. We have the problem to find good Thoroughbreds, that’s the problem all over the world for jumping breeders. So it is easier to try with Quidam – he had good results in the sport himself and he breeds good horses.”
“Our task is to make modern horses for the sport for the next ten, twenty years. We must think about it because what we do now, the result will be the horses that go in the sport in ten years time, even twenty years. For modern sport we need horses that are clever enough, with blood enough.”
Quite Capitol was the Reserve Champion of the Holsteiner Licensing in 2001. In his performance test at Adelheidsdorf, he scored well in jumping, and qualified for the 2004 Bundeschampionate, where, ridden by Torben Köhlbrandt, he won both qualifiers, before finishing 8th in the final. The next year he did the same – winning both qualifiers before coming 6th in the final. As a 7 year old, he was successful on the International Young Horse Tour, and finished 34th in the 7 Year old World Young Horse championships at Lanaken.
He was then campaigned for three seasons, with three riders, mainly placing in 1.30 / 1.40 classes. He had a Grand Prix placing with each of them. At Manerbio with Ulrich Kirchhoff, he placed 45th, at Neumünster with Torben Koehbrandt, he was 26th, and in his final year, 2009, 62nd at Cervia with Jerry Smit. His best result in that final season was a 4th in a Top Score at Vidauban.
He has bred a number of Premium foals – including a daughter from his first crop who went on to be the winning mare in the district of Dithmarschen in 2006. In 2007, his son, Question d’Honneur was licensed in Munich-Riem, and later auctioned for the top price of €155,000. The horse competed in a couple of Young Horse classes in 2011 with Helmut Schoensteller at Munich Riem and Stadl Pura and then seems to have disappeared. He has produced another licensed son, Quite Calido.
Quite Capitol has produced a number of young horse placegetters, but so far, nothing that has looked serious in Grand Prix ranks. Perhaps his best so far has been Quite Zero (Landgraf) who won a 1.40 class with Thomas Ryan at Ranshofen two star.
