The great jumping sire, Kannan is no more. A statement from the France Evevage Group reads thus:
Kannan leaves us. Just yesterday he was walking with his rider every day and this morning at 10 am Kannan was carried away, fortunately very quickly, by a heart attack. It was a hard time for those around him who took care of him so well on a daily basis and sad news for the world of breeding.
We had just celebrated his 28th birthday, including ten spent on the most beautiful sports grounds and as many among the best in all the world rankings of champion sires. He will have made a decisive contribution to the growth of the France Elevage Group, which has managed his breeding career for 10 years.
On the latest WBFSH rankings, Kannan is in 16th place after many years in the top ten – currently his most successful jumper is Quabri de l’Isle
His descendants made him a true legend in sporthorse breeding. They were born in around forty countries and have excelled in international events at all levels for around fifty nations. The existing stock of frozen straws will allow him to continue producing future champions for at least one or two years and we will continue to see him in the stallion rankings for a very long time.
The France Elevage Group was about to announce that it had bought full ownership of him and that they would put into service this year the doses produced before the purchase. The France Elevage Group warns they have not given any consent for the sale of straws and that those which are put on the market for sale are very likely of fraudulent origin.
