Who's Who

Ostholt, Andreas

Born : 1978

Lives : Warendorf, Germany

Andreas followed in the footsteps of his older brother, Frank, who rode in the German Eventing team at the WEG in Lexington 2010. Both boys grew up with horses on the family farm, and Andreas after concentrating on Modern Pentathalon, switched to horses at the age of 14.

He is an ‘athlete solider’ and Head of the Riding Unit of the Sport Development Group at the German Military Sports School in Warendorf. He is a well-known competitor of German National Championships and German Professional Riders Championships in which he has been regularly well placed and came to international prominence in 2002 with Lady Lemon (by the Thoroughbred, Lemon out of a mare by Volturno) who he rode to 9th place at the World Cup final in Deauville.

In 2011 he first won the German championships (Franco Jeus) and that year was a member of the team at the European championships and was long-listed for London 2012.

Andreas’s philosophy is that ‘the basic formula for success is optimisation and good training’. He trains with Chris Bartle, Hans Melzer, Jurgen Koschel and Gunther Winkler. He is married to Sabrina and the couple has a two-year-old boy, Ludwig.

Andreas was selected on the German eventing team for the WEG in Caen, where he finished 9th riding the Westfalien, So Is Et, who is by the Thoroughbred, Sunlight out of a grand-daughter of Ramiro. The pair are members of the German team for Rio.
