Kristy Oatley had a great score in the Special at Tryon and is into the Freestyle. And we recall another time she made the Freestyle cut off for Australia back in 2000 at the Sydney Games, where she rode the Weltmeyer son, Wallstreet. This was back in the days when Kristy was based at Gronwoldhof, near Hamburg, with Karin and the late Herbert Rehbein.
On a visit to Gronwoldhof, Kristy showed us the mighty Donnerhall, who had been one of the first breeding stallions to go out into the competition arena. With Karin Rehbein he won medals, and established a new trend of breeding stallions competing.

Kristy had been reminded by team Chef, Deb MacNicol, who is also the Chef at Tryon, that she needed Freestyle music – just in case. Kristy got the then Freestyle guru in Germany, to design her music – it started with a didgeridoo introduction. Isabell Werth and Gigolo were also in the Freestyle and had the same Freestyle designer, her theme was ‘Just a Gigolo’. Other riders who were at both the Sydney Games, and Tryon are Mary Hanna, Beatriz Ferrer-Salat, and Carl Hester. With Isabell, Kristy making the Freestyle at both.
