1999 – 2013 172cm Liver chestnut
Breeder: Jens Auge
Blue Hors Don Romantic is very much a product of the stud on which he was born – by their first international Grand Prix star, Don Schufro, and out of a mare by their first famous stallion, the Rosenkavalier son, Romancier.
Romantic’s grand dam is by the Thoroughbred, Mago who competed at Grand Prix level and was a member of the Danish Dressage team.
Don Romantic had whirl wind start to his career. He was Danish Foal of the Year in 1999 and sold at auction for a top price. He became the champion of the Danish Warmblood Stallion Licensing and won his stallion Performance Test.
Don Romantic was trained to FEI level by Andreas Helgstrand, but the horse never made a big international break through in the competition ring as he was sidelined by a mysterious injury. Andreas told me the stallion was stiff to one side…
“I must say my best horse ever is a son from Don Schufro, Don Romantic, he won the licensing as a four year old, and that horse is now six. But he has some problems with the nerves in his neck, when he bends to the right there is nothing, but there is a problem bending to the left. They can’t find out what is wrong. We hope to fix it because I have never seen a horse like that before. We have had him to Newmarket, to everywhere. He didn’t always have this problem so hopefully we can fix it. Don Schufro is good, but that horse is amazing, an unbelievable horse.”
Don Romantic was known to be a producer of top quality dressage horses, but there was a worry since as several of Don Romantic’s offspring were diagnosed with career ending neck chips.
Don Romantic offspring included: De La Beauté (reserve Bundeschampion in 2012), Daktylius (2011 Oldenburg regional champion), DoubleYou W (World Young Horse Championship finalist), Damino SD (Swedish Stallion Performance Test winner), Prima Donna (2011 Danish Warmblood Mare of the Year).
Don Romantic was proclaimed an elite stallion in 2009.
The Danish Warmblood society proclaimed Don Romantic Stallion of the Year 2010. He sired more than 17 licensed offspring.

In the 2017 book, he has 127 competitors with winnings of €54,804. His Hanoverian dressage value is 136 while his jumping value is 76. He has a negative 97 for type.
