His mother, Nicole ran a riding school and was also an important translator of classic equitation literature into English – including Decarpentry’s Academic Equitation, Udo Burger’s Way of Perfect Horsemanship and Ulrik Schramm’s The Undisciplined Horse. Between school and university, Christopher trained with Commandant de Parisot, a former chief écuyer at the Cadre Noir, and on return to England, worked with the Swedish Olympic medallist, Hans von Blixen-Finecke.
Christopher acquired Wily Trout as an eventer but they turned their attention to dressage, and went on to place 6th individually at the Los Angeles Olympic Games. They were second at the World Cup final in 1985.
After retiring Wily Trout, Christopher returned to eventing, and was a member of the gold medal winning British team at the 1997 European championships. He won Badminton in 1998 on Word Perfect.
He was dressage trainer to the British eventing team at Atlanta and Sydney before taking the post of team trainer to the German team in 2004 – with spectacular success. In 2017, Christopher left his gold medal winning German Squad, to take over as coach of the British team.
