Maria is the daughter of the famous bull fighter, Paulo Caetano, but her speciality is dressage. As a young rider Maria was twice Portuguese National Dressage Champion (2005 and 2007) and has four times been the National Senior Champion (2008, 2013, 2014, 2017). Maria was thrice a member of the Portuguese Young Rider team at the European Championships, and five times a member of the Senior Team (Windsor 2009, Rotterdam 2011, Herning 2013, Aachen 2015 and Gothenburg 2017.

Maria competed at the 2014 WEG in Caen.
