Who's Who
Hester, Carl
Discipline : Dressage competitor and coach
Born : 1967
Lives : Gloucestershire, UK
Carl grew up on the Isle of Sark where the only means of transport was by horse. At the age of 19 he found a job in a riding centre in Hampshire and his career was underway. He received an enormous kick-start when he was employed by the German born, British based, Dr Wilfred Bechtolsheimer, who gave him the ride on his stallion, Giorgione, who Carl rode to become the youngest British Olympic dressage rider ever, at the Barcelona Games. Since then he rode at Sydney, on Argentile Gulit, at Athens on Escapado, and London – and gold – on Uthopia.
