Born Louis Jean Le Goff in Orne, France, Le Goff served in the French Army and competed for the French eventing team. He rode at the 1960 Rome Games, where he was a member of the bronze medal winning team, and rode again at the 1964 Games. He later acted as French team coach.
He was the American team coach from 1970 to 1984, taking them to 18 international medals. After retiring as coach he was an international eventing dressage judge.
