Who's Who
Schmidt, Hubertus
Discipline : Dressage
Born : 1959
Olympic winner, World Cup winner, five-times German Professional Riders Champion – the equestrian expert Hubertus Schmidt is one of the most successful dressage trainers of our times.
Like many other professional riders, Schmidt – who was also successful in show jumping up to advanced level – was often forced to sell the horses he had trained as soon as they had achieved their first successes. Despite his undisputed talent as a rider, his real breakthrough therefore did not come until relatively late. His ability, however, had already been recognised much earlier by such important dressage personalities as Harry Boldt, Rainer Klimke and Siegfried Peilicke, who also count amongst Schmidt’s instructors.
In 2001 Schmidt won the Grand Prix Kür with Fair Lady at the CDIO in Aachen, with Barclay he finished in second place in the Kür-Grand-Prix in Wiesbaden. In 2002 he achieved a double win in Münster as well as success in the Grand Prix and in the Special of München-Riem – a success which he was also able to repeat the following year. Since 2000 he has been amongst the medallists at the German Championships on no less than five occasions.
Hubertus Schmidt runs the training yard and stud which was founded by his father.
